In June 2018, I and my other two friends visited Uganda with the help of Nature Adventure Africa Safari Limited. Nature Africa Safari Limited is a Uganda based tour agency conducting tourism activities in East and Central Africa providing best and immediate services to tourists who wish to explore East and Central Africa.
We communicated to the tour agency’s consultant (Moses) via email and he told us what was exactly needed for us to have a superb tour in Uganda. The Tour agency provided us with a Land cruiser vehicle and purchased for us both gorilla permits and chimpanzee permits because we were eager to explore those two great apes. We paid some deposit to Moses in order to confirm our Uganda safari and we booked earlier before our tour because it is much required especially to that month we had planned for our tour very many tourists travel to Uganda for various activities in the Parks, so we had a fear that if we delay to book for our tour we would get inconveniences which we didn’t want.
On our arrival in Uganda, the tour agency’s tour guides picked us from the airport to our booked hotel which we stayed in before going to Uganda’s Parks but we had some detours in Kampala city which we enjoyed after receiving our Land cruiser vehicle. After our Kampala city tours, we went back to our hotel for a bath and then took supper till the next morning.
In the morning we woke up very early and cleaned ourselves and also had a cup of coffee before going for our tour in various Parks. After taking a cup of coffee, we drove straight to Lake Mburo National Park which is found in western Uganda and it was a four hours drive from Kampala city. In the Park we really realized that it is the best Park to view the gigantic eland, zebras, impalas and acacia associated birds. In the Park we were also able to view over 332 bird species and also to a variety of mammals such as buffaloes, defassa, water bucks, warthogs, reed bucks, eland antelopes, leopards, Hyenas and lions.
The Park is made up of five lakes which we were able to visit too and from those lakes we had a great chance to view the pygmy hippos and crocodiles and still in the Parks swamps we were still able to spot the sitatunga antelopes and the red-black and yellow papyrus gonalek. Some of the bird species we spotted in the Park included; the African fin foot, Saddle billed stork, Shoe bill, Papyrus, Yellow warbler, Brown chested wattled plover, Carrutter’s cisticola, great snipe, Abyssinian, Tabora cisticola, ground horn bill, white winged warbler and many more.
We engaged in many activities while in Lake Mburo national park such as nature walks, game drives, boat cruises of which through this activity we were able to view crocodiles, hippos and birds like African fin foot, Kingfishers, African fish eagle, herons and Cormorants plus many others. In the Park we lived in Mihingo lodge which also allows the riding of horses which we were able to also ride thus getting a great tour in the Park.
From Lake Mburo National Park, we drove to Queen Elizabeth National Park which is also found in the western region of Uganda and a bit close to Lake Mburo National Park. In the Park we camped in Kyambura game lodge and it is where we were originating from to the Park where we performed in many activities such as boat cruises, game viewing, game drives, birding and many others. The Park protects lions which climb trees and this is very spectacular at seeing them. We were able to see these tree climbing lions in the Ishasha sector of the Park and we also viewed to over 600 bird species.
We were also able to spot other wildlife such as Uganda Kob, Elephants, Leopards, Buffaloes and at the Kazinga channel which is situated in the middle of the Park we were able to engage in boat cruises and also view the hippos, crocodiles and many bird species. Due to the Park’s amazing tree climbing lions and inhabiting the highest number of bird species in East Africa (over 600 bird species), the Park receives many tourists who go there to enjoy these lions plus the huge number of bird species thus we evidenced the high population which visits the Park after visiting it. We enjoyed the brilliant and spectacular views of the Kazinga channel in the centre of the Park of which this channel connects two Lakes (Lake George in North-east and Lake Edward in the South west).
Through Ishasha sector, you accessed Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park which is the best Park for gorilla tours because it protects the hugest number of Mountain gorillas in the whole world. The Park protects over 500 mountain gorillas and 14 habituated gorilla families which take residence in four sectors of the Park namely; Buhoma, Rushaga, Ruhija and Nkuringo. We started our tracking at 08:30am in a group of eight people being allowed to go in the thick forests of Bwindi to go for the tracking of Mountain gorillas and all activities we performed in the Park; we were guided by the well trained armed Park guides.
We paid US$ 600 for each gorilla permit and all the three permits were purchased for us by the Nature Adventure Africa Safari Limited of which we paid a total of US$ 1800 for our three permits. Though it is rare to find mountain gorillas in the world but in Bwindi you may think that mountain gorillas are very common and easily seen because of the huge number of the gorillas in the Park and it is believed that the Park protects almost half of the world’s total population of the mountain gorillas thus you will enjoy them in plenty of you visit the Park. And on our way to the Park we posed at the Equator and took some remembrance photos thus we really got a great tour in Uganda.
From Bwindi, we ended our tour to Kibale Forest National Park in the southern parts of Uganda and on our way to the Park we got scenic views of Lake Bunyonyi. In the Park we tracked the chimpanzees and it is the most activity done in the Park though we were also able to see other primates like the L’Hoest’s monkeys and many others. A chimpanzee permit for Kibale forest national park’s chimpanzees cost US$ 150 per permit and we were able to view these primates in plenty.
Chimpanzee tracking starts at 08:00am though at 07:00am we first had a briefing of which after the briefing we started the tracking in a group of six individuals and we were guided by the Park rangers. From the Park we realized that it is the best East African destination suitable for chimpanzee tours because it is home to over 1500 chimpanzees which we had never seen in any other East African Park which we had ever visited.
From Kibale forest national park after viewing the chimpanzees we had to go back to Kampala city for a flight back home but before leaving western and southern parts of Uganda we also took a holiday at Lake Bunyonyi where we got involved in boat cruises and also viewed some aquatic birds plus eating roasted and fried fresh fish species caught from the Lake.
After our holiday, we drove back to Kampala for a flight back home but we left Uganda with a great experience we achieved from her Parks because we were able to explore some of its best Parks such as Bwindi which keeps the hugest number of mountain gorillas in the world, Kibale which protects the highest number of chimpanzees in East Africa and Queen Elizabeth national park which keeps the amazing tree climbing lions.
